A Week in Florence

Florence Framed
Beautiful Florence, Birthplace of the Renaissance. There’s history and art in every alley and piazza.
Art of Architecture
Professor Naff took the students throughout the city, as part of the Art of Architecture class.
Florence Duomo
Florence’s main cathedral, also called the Duomo, is a highlight of the city.

From the top of the Florence Duomo
The view from the top of the cupola (463 steps to the top!) is worth the climb.
Florence Baptistry ceiling
The ceiling of the Baptistry of St. John, beside the Florence Duomo, displays amazing masterpieces of art.
The Church of San Miniato al Monte
The Church of San Miniato al Monte is set up on a hill above Florence. This is the site from which most of the landscape photos of Florence are taken.

Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella is, architecturally, one of the most important Gothic churches in Tuscany.
Santa Croce
Santa Croce is another gorgeous church in Florence.
Michelangelo's David
Michelangelo’s David is perhaps the best-known statue in Florence and is housed in the Academia Museum.

Florence courtyard
Gorgeous courtyards, such as this one, can be found throughout Florence.
Florence accommodations
We stayed together in this Waldensian Foresteria, similar to a hostel.
Pizza in Florence
When we weren’t seeing sites, we were enjoying pizza, pasta or gelato. We’ve got a list of our favorites!

Ponte Vecchio Florence
The Ponte Vecchio, which crosses the Arno River, is especially beautiful at night.
