Accreditation

Students who successfully complete the Rome with Purpose semester program will receive 16 semester hours of academic credit issued by Geneva College which is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The cost for this service is $125.

If you do not attend a college with a partnership agreement with Rome with Purpose, it is important that you work out the details regarding transfer of credit before you come to Rome. We are happy to speak with the registrar at your university to work out these details. Just write to us, or call us (704-641-3376), with the necessary contact information.

Program Costs

$15,900 for full semester   

Program costs include:

  • tuition
  • room and board
  • airport meet and greet
  • full-time onsite staff and support
  • transportation pass for all travel in Rome
  • cell phone use
  • wi-fi on campus
  • two multi-day study tours in Italy
  • all museum and excursion fees
  • weekly cooking classes
  • medical travel insurance policy

Deposits

The application fee is $30. Once you have been accepted you will need to pay a non-refundable confirmation fee ($300) within 30 days to reserve your place. This will be deducted from your total bill.

Other Expenses

Travel Fee

The Travel Fee can be added directly to your bill ($1500) so that you can apply for financial aid on your entire package. This covers the cost of your airfare, transportation in Rome (metro and bus pass) as well as travel to and from Rome with Purpose excursions (generally trains). If you choose to purchase your own airline ticket to and from Rome, your travel fee for your travel within Italy will be $300.

  • Even if you plan to use frequent flyer miles or an airline Companion Pass to fly to Rome, please work out details with Debbie at Rome with Purpose to assure that your arrival will be at the same time–or close to–the arrival of others coming in the group. Unless you arrive with the group, we cannot be responsible for your pickup at the Rome Fiumicino Airport.

Including personal travel during the three weeks of independent travel. (You are free to stay in Rome at the convent during this time, if you prefer.)

Invoicing

About two months before the semester begins, Rome with Purpose will send an invoice to you or to your college, depending on the agreement which has been made (see introductory explanation under the “Costs & Other Expenses” tab above). We require 25% of the balance no later than 45 days before the start date of the program; an additional 25% is due 30 days before; and the remaining 50% is due two weeks before the start date of your program. Full payment is due two weeks before you leave for Rome.

Scholarships & Aid

You should be able to use all of your Federal and State financial aid to study in Rome with us. However, you must arrange those details with the Financial Aid Office and Study Abroad Office at your college.

In addition to Fast Web, FAFSA, and College Board financial aid, here are a few other scholarships you can apply for. Some are specifically geared for study abroad or for Italy: 

  • Rome with Purpose Mission Scholarship – for any undergraduate student considering mission work in Italy or Europe
  • Rome with Purpose Work/Missions Trip Scholarship – if you cannot receive your institutional aid because you want to study abroad with us, you can apply for additional aid from Rome with Purpose.
  • Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship – for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at their college or university to study abroad
  • National Italian American Foundation – Be a member of NIAF or have a parent or guardian who is a member of NIAF. (You can join today!)
  • Sons of Italy scholarship – U.S. citizens of Italian descent in their junior or senior year of undergraduate study,, majoring or minoring in Italian language studies at an accredited academic institution.
  • “Define Yourself” Scholarship – Who are you as a student? An athlete, a history ace, a star on the drums, class treasurer, a student volunteer, or something completely different? GoEnnounce wants to reward you with a $500 scholarship for being YOU! The $500 Scholarship is an ongoing, monthly scholarship open to high school seniors, college freshmen, sophomores & juniors.
  • American Foundation of Savoy Orders – undergraduate or graduate students majoring in the Humanities and Fine Arts or International Studies
  • ScholarTrips – ScholarTrips is a national scholarship contest designed to reward creativity and the desire to learn through international travel. This year we will give away six $2,500 scholarships to students who want to study or volunteer abroad. Applicants can enter by answering the question: “How Can International Travel Impact Your Life?” in a short video or 500-word essay and submitting a form in our website. Open only to legal residents of the 50 United States and District of Columbia, who are at least 14 years of age at the time of application, and are students at a state-accredited high school or trade school, or an accredited university or college at time of entry.   • Fund for Education Abroad – US citizens currently enrolled as undergraduates in US universities/colleges who plan to study abroad for at least four weeks
  • The Global Study Awards – StudyPortals offers students the chance to receive up to £10,000 to expand their horizon and study abroad. We want to ultimately encourage young people to study abroad as part of their tertiary studies in order to experience and explore new countries, cultures and languages. The Global Study Awards recognizes studying abroad as a positively life changing experience for many students, opening their minds to alternative ways of personal life and professional career, as well as promoting intercultural understanding and tolerance.   • Golden Key Scholarships – a wide variety of scholarships for study abroad
  • Study Abroad Europe Scholarship – Study Abroad Europe scholarship offers awards that range from $250 to $1,000 per session. Fall, Spring, Academic Year and Summer students are eligible to apply. Student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B average) or higher. All applicants will be notified of scholarship decisions 3-5 weeks after the scholarship application deadline.
  • Global Studies Foundation – supports foreign language training and other academic studies abroad, this grant provides supplemental funds for American students who already are studying abroad under the auspices of an official study abroad program conducted by an accredited academic institution.
  • Bulk Office Supply Scholarship – BulkOfficeSupply.com offers more than school supplies we are there to help students pursue their goals. We have implemented a program to help students express their educational goals and future plans. At Bulk Office Supply we want to help students throughout the U.S.A. have an opportunity to get a scholarship. If you have an interest in teaching, Art or owning your own business you are eligible to apply for our $1000 scholarship program. The program is open to all high school students as well as College Freshmen and Sophomores. Please see website for more details.
  • Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grants – This scholarship is designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Fifty $1,000 grants are awarded each year.
  • Dumbo Moving’s Moving Forward Scholarship – They are looking for students who have extraordinary talents or grades. They will be rewarding one person of extraordinary talent with $3,000. The decision will be made by company management based on the following criteria: awards on different state, national or international competitions, GPA, or talents. They are looking for something interesting or out of the ordinary.
  • Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships –  3 different types of scholarship available: Academic Year Ambassadorial Scholarships for 1 year of study abroad, Multi-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships for 2 years of degree-oriented study abroad, and Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships for 3 or 6 months of language study and cultural immersion abroad.
  • Critical Language Scholarships – The CLS Program is a U.S. government interagency effort to expand dramatically the number of Americans studying and mastering critical need foreign languages. Students of diverse disciplines and majors are encouraged to apply.
  • Iron Security College Scholarship – Iron Security Inc. is offering a $500 scholarship that will be given to the student who writes the most engaging blog post about this year’s topic: “When was the last time you were put in a situation where you had only a few moments to react and what was the outcome?”. Iron Security College Scholarship Blog Contest is sponsored by Iron Security and is open to all high school seniors and full-time college students in the United States that maintain a 2.5 GPA.
  • Tortuga Backpacks Study Abroad Scholarship – Ideal for our Independent Travel Weeks! Part of Tortuga Backpack’s mission “is to help people take amazing trips” — which is why they dedicate part of their proceeds towards a study abroad scholarship for full time students who have been accepted to study abroad trips. It’s only open to U.S. citizens. To apply just complete an online application and 500-word essay.
  • The GotChosen $1000 Every Month Scholarship – GotChosen is offering a recurring monthly scholarship to help college students. The GotChosen $1000 Every Month Scholarship is easy and free to enter. A new winner is selected every month by a random drawing.
  • Iron Security College Scholarship – Iron Security Inc. is offering a $500 scholarship that will be given to the student who writes the most engaging blog post about this year’s topic: “When was the last time you were put in a situation where you had only a few moments to react and what was the outcome?”.   • Annuity.org Community Scholarship – As part of our core value of “community,” we want to encourage students to think about their financial futures long before they graduate. Our essay topic is designed around a concept that’s easy to understand but difficult to execute: being responsible with your money. Please submit a 700-1,400 word essay on the prompt: “You just won a $10 million lottery jackpot! Outline your plan to be a savvy investor”, including a works-cited page with at least 3 sources. Must be a student enrolled in a U.S. College to enter.
  • Special Delivery Scholarship – If you have ever been personally impacted in a profound way by a piece of mail that you have received, enter the AddressChange.us – Special Delivery Scholarship and you might receive an award of $1000. To apply, write an interesting and original essay on the following topic: Recount a time when you received a piece of mail that changed your life, and outline how it effected your future. The AddressChange.us Special Delivery Scholarship is currently open to undergraduate students currently enrolled full-time at an accredited post-secondary college or university in the United States. Must have 3.0 GPA and be a US citizen or legal resident.
  • BrokerFish Scholarship for University Students – The BrokerFish $1,000 University Scholarship is available in spring 2015 to students who are currently pursuing any university course. Applicants must be full-time students of any nationality who are pursuing an undergraduate “degree”, “diploma” or equivalent program by an accredited institution of higher education.

Withdrawal/Dismissal

Of course we hope you won’t leave us! But sometimes it happens, so here’s the deal:

If you decide to withdraw, notifications must be in writing or by email to Rome with Purpose. (A response from us will indicate that we received your email.)

  • If you withdraw after your airline ticket has been purchased, you will be responsible for the cost of the ticket. Don’t worry! We won’t purchase the ticket without confirming with you first! In fact, we’ll ask you to sign a release form before we purchase the ticket.
  • If you withdraw more than 30 days before the start date for the program in Rome, you are responsible for paying all unrecoverable expenses not covered by your $300 deposit.
  • If you withdraw less than 30 days before the start of Rome with Purpose, you are responsible to pay 50% of the room and board fees. Your $300 deposit will be deducted from the 50% due. Tuition reimbursement will be based on your institution’s policy.
  • If a student/parent withdraws after the program has begun, a partial refund of the tuition costs will be made. If a student withdraws in the first month, 50% of tuition charges will be refunded; in the second month, 25% of the tuition charges will be refunded. There will be no refund for room and board charges.
  • If a student is dismissed for disciplinary reasons, no refund will be given.
